One more deputation will bring the 1st half of the the 482 Masonic season 'officially' to a close.
Following our last regular meeting - a Mark Degree worked by Bro. Ray King P.M. - we took a deputation to The Thistle Lodge 270 in West Calder for a degree worked mainly by young masons from the Province. It was an superb night and 270 was packed to capacity for what proved to be an excellent degree, with two Kirkliston Maitland brethren, Bro. Peter Cox I.G. and Bro. Andy Hogg M.M. taking part. As was said after the degree, with this kind of effort and commitment, the Province of Midlothian would appear to be in good hands. Our second deputation will be to Lodge St. John Fisherrow 112 on Wednesday 7th May and like 270 they meet the same night as us, so will be good to have this opportunity catch up with the brethren in Musselburgh. The main event of the summer will of course be the Installation of Bro. Tom Smith as Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master. This takes place at Lodge Dalkeith Kilwinning No. 10 on Saturday 7th June and is sure to be a full house!! We can only hope that we do indeed get some 'proper' summer weather and although some Lodges do meet throughout the year, we wish everyone an enjoyable time over the coming months.

It was very sad to record the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of Bro. George Fairley P.M.
Bro. George was involved in an accident on Sunday 16th February while cycling between South Queensferry and Kirkliston. As well as being a Past Master of Lodge Kirkliston Maitland, he was a founder member and Past Master of Lodge St. Andrew 1587. His Mother Lodge is The Thistle Lodge 270. All at 482 extend their deepest sympathies to Bro. George's family and friends. We've just published photographs taken at our bi-annual 'Ostrea Lodge' visit when, one again, everyone concerned had a really great night!! It's always good to meet up with our friends from South of the Border and this year was no exception, with 22 brethren making the trip this year. And we're already taking about a date for trip to Colchester in 2014!! You can see the photographs by clicking here. CandidateOur candidate on the night was Mr. Andrew Hogg, son-in-law of our R.W.M. Bro. Les Duff. And at our meeting the Wednesday before, we initiated Mr. Peter Cox, the first of our three new candidates. This coming Wednesday, 3rd April,we'll be working another Entered Apprentice Degree when our third candidate will be initiated. This will be our second-last meeting of the first part of the season and we'll finish off with a Mark Degree worked by Bro. Alastair Smith P.M. Between these two meeting is The PGLM Quarterly Communication, being held this time in West Calder at The Thistle Lodge 270. DeputationLater in the month, on April 22nd, we'll be taking a deputation to Lodge Royal Thistle 1338 The Royal Scots and of course there are three installations in the diary: Lodge Liberton 1201 on Saturday 27th April, Lodge St. John Corstorphine 788 on Saturday 11th May and Dalkeith Kilwinning No. 10 on Friday 17th May.
